SEEKING CLEARWATER ATTEMPTED CARJACKING SUSPECT

Clearwater Police Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to help identify the suspect in an attempted carjacking at Countryside Mall. According to detectives, on Sunday, February 2, 2014, the suspect approached a woman who had two young children with her as they got out of their car between J.C. Penney and Macy’s. He was armed with a handgun, and pulled the slide back on the gun as he made his demands. The woman pled with him not to hurt her or her children. When another car pulled into a nearby parking space, he was startled and ran from the scene. The attached video was taken of him inside the mall before the incident. The suspect is described as a black male, in his mid-20’s, standing 5’6” to 5’9” tall. He was wearing a unique white baggy polo shirt with green and blue horizontal stripes and dark jeans. He also had a dark shoulder bag at the time of the crime.
